One Man, One Turtle, One Beer

I thought long and hard on what beer I should write about first, maybe a porter, or a brown ale, or a red, or even a stout... there are just so many choices!  And then it hit me the one of the most popular beer styles is IPA or India Pale Ale and it would only be prudent to take the style of beer that so many of the craft breweries are using as their flagship beers. so let’s take a look at our first beer.

Beer: Hopsecutioner
Beer Style: IPA
Brewer: Terrapin Beer Co.
Appearance

When poured into a glass the beer is amber in color with a good head.  It is crisp, and clear with the not one hint of cloud or any hint of an unfiltered beer. The foam is exactly what you want to see on a beer and it holds the foam.

Appearance: 5/5

Aroma

with hints of pine and floral and not much else this IPA leaves you hoping for something more in the aroma arena. but hey, it smells like beer so it has that going for it.

Aroma: 3/5

Taste

you know what smells like the average, everyday, run-of-the-mill IPA has a great deal of surprises to its taste.  As an IPA you expect it to have a fairly bitter taste to it, but there is none it has some bitterness to it but leaves you to enjoy the taste of pine and floral.  the nice thing about the taste is that it is so light and mild that it is a very good beer to introduce to people who only partake of a beer brewed by the big three.

Taste: 4/5

Mouth-feel

light, loose, and very delightful all very good words to describe the mouth-feel.  This is a beer you can easily take to a BBQ or a backyard party and have a long night of drinking and merriment. Over all mouth-feel is a very pleasurable experience, and along with taste will also be palatable for drinkers of the big three.

Mouth-feel: 5/5

Finish

The finish gets high marks for the smoothness and the clean finish.  No strange aftertaste, no lingering bitterness, no problems. The finish is so smooth it takes away from the end of the beer taste.

Finish: 4/5

It’s not a bad beer. It is actually a very good beer. Let’s go to the scoring.

Appearance: 5/5
Aroma: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Mouth-feel: 5/5
Finish: 4/5

First Brew

I thought long and hard on what my first post would be about.  What beer would I blog/write about?  Would I blast the big American beers (Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors) for lulling the people into "American Lager boredom" robbing the people of taste and passion for beer?  Maybe I would sing the praises of a relativity unknown microbrew?  Or a European beer that gets overlooked for being European?  Questions abound.  And then I thought... lets backup and just breathe... maybe I should start from the beginning and not get too far ahead of myself.  So if I were to do this right I would need a mission statement of sorts so others would understand why I am doing what I am doing.  Also it would help to keep my integrity.  So without wasting anymore of your time here is my mission statement.

To promote an appreciation and understanding for a verity of beer available to the consumer population, And to encourage that population to try to help expand out beer IQ as a whole so we may make better beer decisions.

Well there it is, and what a statement it is.  Just to be clear.  I want everyone to know it is not a bad thing to have a favorite beer.  I have a favorite beer myself an old standby that I can order at anytime so I know I will have a pleasurable experience.  However my sincere want is that you are not afraid to try a new beer, a different beer, and maybe, just maybe a new favorite beer.

So let’s sit back and see what we have... Awesome blog title?... check.  Mission statement?... check.  Epic sign off statement??? Well... I have to save something for next week now don't I.
